Instrumented Football Helmet

Problem Statement:
The Instrumented Football Helmet is a project that combines modern circuitry and software to improve sports safety through technology. The goal was to integrate a system of sensors into a helmet in order to measure the force of impacts sustained by the athlete. Multiple accelerometers coupled with flex/pressure sensors collect data that is used to assess the impacts to the head. A printed circuit board connected to the sensors sends the raw data to the onboard microprocessor that performs the necessary calculations to interpret the data and log it into the flash memory. This data is designed to aid in the prognosis of concussions and other head injuries.
